‘More Overt Government Discrimination…’

From the Canadian government’s ‘Governor in Council Appointments’:

“Current Opportunity: President, Canadian Broadcasting Corporation…

“We know that our country is stronger — and our government more effective — when decision-makers reflect Canada’s diversity…

“The Government of Canada will consider bilingual proficiency and diversity in assessing candidates for this position. You are therefore encouraged to include in your online profile your ability to speak and understand your second official language. Preference may be given to candidates who are members of one or more of the following groups: women, ‘indigenous’ peoples {descendants of Siberian settlers}, persons with disabilities, and members of ‘visible’ minorities {What about invisible minorities?}

“Knowledge and understanding of the Francophone, Anglophone and ‘indigenous’ cultures in Canada…
{Not to be petty, but why is ‘Francophone’ first? It’s not the largest group, nor the first alphabetically…}

“Proficiency in both official languages is essential…
{Which, of course, eliminates 90% of Canadians from qualifying, regardless of merit…}

“The President and CEO has the option of residing in Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto…
{Only in central Canada; yet, this is Canada’s “national broadcaster”…}
